Dealing with issues at a local government level
Local Government bodies are City or Shire Councils.
Local Government Development Application (DA) approval is usually the first stage in the approval of a liquor outlet – whether it be a bottle shop, bar or hotel. Within each council there is usually a planning department that oversees the Development Application decision-making process.
Different councils have different DA notification and consideration processes. Local Governments also have powers to help prevent and minimise alcohol-related harms.
